All good things must come to an end.

The time has come to sell my 2016 MK7 Golf R. While bittersweet, I'm excited to see the car live on with another car enthusiast who will hopefully love it just as much as I have.

Under the hood, there is a OEM+ approach with APR adding subtle carbon fiber and slick black accents to the engine bay.

OIL ANALYSIS • BLACKSTONE-LABS.COM

SAMPLE TAKEN: 07/24/22

MILES ON CAR: 43,850

MILES ON OIL: 4,100

TYPE OF OIL: 5W-40

" This first report is a great one for your Volkswagen. First off, the wear metals (aluminum through tin) compare well to universal averages for the engine type. Those are based on a slightly longer oil run of about 6,200 miles oil use. You've got less metal overall, and that's perfect for the miles of oil use - the engine is wearing predictably (which also means healthily!). The viscosity read thin for 5W/40, but it wasn't due to excess fuel dilution, so that's a minor complaint. The TBN read at 5.5, showing a good supply of active additive remaining. Looking great at 43K miles. "

History of my R

At 22, I never would have thought I would have been in the postion to own a Golf R. No matter what car I would have gotten, it would have been special - but this was different.

This car has opened many door for me and allowed me to be introduced to people who have had a massive influence on my life. If I didn't buy the Golf R, things would be very different for me right now. I would have not met awesome friends, clients and even my significant other. Almost everything to this point in my life has been brought about by my Golf R in some way, shape or form. The people, experiences and places it has transported me to is something I'll never forget.

While bitter-sweet, it is time for this Golf R to be driven and enjoyed by another enthusiast for many years to come.

Maintenance

  • General maintenance has been mostly carried out by me according to VW’s guidelines and manual.

  • Every oil change has been between 3000-5000 miles most of the time coming before 5000 miles.

  • The Haldex and DSG fluid was checked and changed @ 22,000 miles. This was a unnecessary fluid swap, as VW’s recommended change interval is 40,000 miles. I only did this because I’m really anxious and I was chasing a issue that later I found out was a software issue. A simple restart of the Haldex pump was the solution.

  • Front rotors were replaced @ 44,000 miles

  • Brake fluid bleed @ 44,000 miles

  • Spark plugs changed @ 44,000 miles

Recommendations

  • Windsheild has a small (less than 0.5 inch) rock chip that spidered a few years ago - It's out of view, but still noticable. Might be worth seeing if insurance will replace the windsheild if you really wanted.

  • Walnut blasting (carbon cleaning) on the intake manifold. Based on what I’ve seen around the community, etc - doing this around 40,000-60,000 miles is recommended and will help with power and fuel economy. This will probably run you about $400-$600 depending on your shop.

  • Cylinder 4 has a oil gasket leak, small seepage, not buring or losing oil.
This is common as VW and a lot of newer cars use a anaerobic sealant that is prone to failing over time (common wear item). The fix should be a new application of the anaerobic sealant  around the cam craddle. This is not a catastrophic issue, but should be addressed at some point in the future.
